Code of Practice

To all members – please familiarise yourself with these rules and the constitution and make a positive contribution to the running of the group whenever you can.

Safety

All members are responsible for their own safety and are expected to wear suitable clothing and footwear (see advised equipment list on website) They should have navigation and map reading skills, know their own limitations and respect others. New members with little previous experience of hill walking are encouraged to attend a short safety course before joining any weekend or longer holiday.

Payments

Membership – There is a joining fee. Annual membership is payable by 1st April each year. Failure to pay within one calendar month of this date incurs a rejoining fee.

Accommodation and any other costs booked in advance on behalf of the group should be paid in full when a member books a place.

Car sharing – members given lifts should make a contribution towards driver costs. Drivers to expect and accept this.

Walk leaders

Any member offering to lead an OHJAC walk will provide details, by email, to and get the approval of the events secretary. Details will then be posted on the website.

New members

New members are nominated by an existing club member who proposes them to the committee having explained the type of walk undertaken. A new member will be expected to have read and understood the constitution and code of practice before paying the joining and membership fees. Members are expected to know and respect the Countryside Code.

Temporary membership

Adult guests will be permitted to join for one walk / activity. They must be accompanied by a member and have read the Code of Practice. Members must inform the leader they are bringing a guest and take responsibility for them.

Dogs

Well-behaved dogs on short leads may be brought on day walks at the discretion of and by prior agreement with the walk leader.

This is available from the website www.ohjac.co.uk or by providing the Events Secretary with a supply of stamped self addressed envelopes.
